What is Radon?

A layman’s description

Radon is a cancer-causing radio-active gas. You cannot see, smell or taste radon, but it may be a problem in your home. The Surgeon General has warned that radon is the second leading cause of lung cancer in the United States today. If you smoke and your home has high radon levels, you’re at high risk for developing lung cancer. Some scientific studies of radon exposure indicate that children may be more sensitive to radon. This may be due to their higher respiration rate and their rapidly dividing cells, which may be more vulnerable to radiation damage.

Our Services

Radon Testing Services

Our testing process for radon uses state of the art continuous radon monitors.  These monitors take multiple air samples per hour for a two day period.  These levels are then averaged and reported in a measurement called pico curies per liter.  The results need to be under 4.0 pCi/L in order to be considered a safe level.  Let our team of radon professionals perform measurement testing, accurate and prompt results which will provide valuable information for you and your family.

Important testing information to remember:

  • Do not disturb the test device at any time during the test.
  • If a radon mitigation system is present, make sure it is operating normally unless instructed by your radon professional.
  • Do not operate a whole house fan during the testing period.
  • Report any power outages to your radon professional.
  • Limit the use of bathroom and kitchen exhaust fans.
  • Windows and doors need to be shut except for normal in and out.
  • Central air conditioning and heating can be run as normal.  Window air conditioning units should be removed and windows closed, if they cannot be removed they can only be run on “circulate” mode.
  • Closed house conditions should remain in effect for the duration of the testing period.
